Teeth Whitening Strathfield

When is teeth whitening right for me?

Many people want whiter teeth. Often they list it as one of the things they want to do before an event like a wedding or before working in a new role that may involve face to face client interaction. Tooth-whitening works best for people with yellow teeth and is less effective for people with darker coloured teeth like brown or  grey. If tooth-whitening isn’t suitable for your teeth, we may recommend an alternative cosmetic solution such as veneers.

What are my teeth whitening options?

There are different methods for teeth whitening using various technologies and materials. Whitening can be done in-office professionally or at home using a whitening kit. For most patients, the most effective way to whiten the teeth is a professional in-office treatment. At Distinct Dental Centre we will protect your gum and soft tissue before using intensive whitening material activated with high frequency light. This technique can whiten your teeth up to 8 degrees in just 45 minutes! At home whitening kits use less intense whitening gel compared to in-office whitening material, therefore it takes longer to work, but is a great way to maintain an in-office treatment result. It requires customised whitening retainers that hold the whitening gel against the surfaces of the teeth. Since the whitening gel can be irritative for gum and oral soft tissue, well-made retainers plays a crucial role in reducing the risk of displacing the gel into the mouth or gumline.

Does teeth whitening cause sensitivity?

Teeth sensitivity is a common side effect of whitening; however, it is temporary and does not cause any damage and will be relieved by anti-sensitivity toothpaste. Please be assured that shortly after completing your treatment it will disappear.

How long will my teeth whitening results last?

Teeth whitening may last from a few months to up to 3 years and it varies from person to person. The whitening effects won’t last as long if you smoke or drink red wine, tea or coffee, which can all stain your teeth.
